Oldeani Secondary School - 10 Years of Impact
In Tanzania, less than 30% of students complete their secondary education. To address this issue and ensure accessible quality secondary education for the Oldeani community, TCF partnered with the government to co-manage Oldeani Secondary School (OSS) in 2013.
For the past 10 years, our team has worked tirelessly to create an empowering learning environment where every student can thrive. We have made tremendous strides in improving the campus infrastructure while ensuring every teacher has the resources and support they need to succeed.
As we look back on the last decade, we have seen critical improvements in the following areas:
Infrastructure
OSS today is nearly unrecognizable from what was once a campus in dire need of infrastructure support. Since 2013 we have completely refurbished the buildings as well as constructed classrooms, staff housing, a sports complex, a library, and more to ensure students have adequate space to learn and grow.
Capacity Building
In 2013, the student-teacher ratio was 100:1 creating a crowded environment that posed a significant barrier to learning. With a current student-teacher ratio of 19:1, we have built a team of dedicated educators who prioritize what goes on inside the classroom. Recognizing that the success of students is closely tied to teachers’ capacity, we continue to provide monthly professional development training and one-on-one coaching for all teachers.
Academic Performance
For the first time in school history, 100% of Form 4 students passed the National Examination last year. This is a huge achievement considering the pass rate in 2013 was just 3%, leaving the majority of students unable to graduate. As we provide a holistic education that goes far beyond the national curriculum, we will continue to focus on the overall needs of each student.
All of this progress would not be possible without the commitment of supporters like you who have helped us revolutionize the student experience at OSS. As we dream big about the next 10 years, we hope you join us in providing students with the quality education they deserve.
