Meet Our New Student Teachers
Since 2005, the Student Teacher Program has allowed us to tackle two major challenges faced by our community: dedicated, smart young adults being unable to continue their education due to financial constraints and the need for additional staff to support students and teachers at our partner schools. Each year, we select a group of bright secondary school graduates to live at the Rift Valley Children’s Village (RVCV) and work as teaching assistants at Gyetighi Primary (GPS) and Oldeani Secondary School (OSS). After their year with us, each Student Teacher is supported through 3 years of higher education in a field of their choice.
Having now supported over 80 young adults through this program, we are thrilled to introduce you to our four new Student Teachers!
SOPHIA BURRA:
Sophia Burra dreams of becoming a secondary school teacher so she can educate children and encourage curiosity. Sophia will be assisting with geography and history classes at GPS, which she believes will be excellent practice for the geography classes she hopes to teach in the years to come. A lover of reading and sports, Sophia also wants to help children understand the importance of self-care and the role it plays in preventing diseases and keeping communities healthy.
IBRAHIM JOSEPHAT:
An environmentalist, Ibrahim Josephat hopes to become a tour guide to help conserve the environment while keeping both people and animals safe and healthy. Ibrahim, who loves spending his time outside, will be assisting in geography and science classes at GPS. He is looking forward to working with primary school students!
SILVESTA VICENT:
Inspired by our Clinical Officer at our Rural Community Health Clinic, Silvesta Vicent dreams of becoming a lab technician so he can understand diseases and help save those who are sick. A lover of biology and chemistry, he is looking forward to helping primary school students succeed in their classes at GPS. In his free time you’ll find Silvesta playing goalie on the soccer field!
ANETH NDEKA:
Aneth Ndeka applied to be a part of the Student Teacher Program in order to further her education and become a primary school teacher. A volleyball and basketball player, she is passionate about helping the next generation of children achieve their dreams!
