Construction Update - Building Our Future
As we transition Oldeani Secondary School (OSS) into a residential campus, we are focused on providing students with far more than just safe housing. Students will have access to opportunities for focused learning, valuable life-skills training, medical care, and nutritional support so that they have the resources and space needed to succeed. To transform OSS into a residential campus that will provide students with those intangibles, we are investing over $1.2 million in expanding campus infrastructure.
The biggest chunk of our investment will be building dormitories to house students. We are thrilled to announce that we have started constructing our first dorm quad that will house 96 female students starting in January 2023! With the walls built and the roof being added soon, this dormitory will allow us to expand upon our pilot boarding program to provide safe and supportive housing to 160 students next year.
In addition to providing students with a safe residence, we need to ensure that we have the capacity to support a robust residential program. Our rural location makes commuting to OSS nearly impossible. To recruit and retain dedicated staff, we will be building additional teacher housing to hire more staff as well as constructing accommodation for houseparents who will be dedicated to overseeing student needs.
Finally, we are placing focus on the systems and facilities that help build a supportive environment for students. We are expanding the school’s dining hall, adding the final touches to the campus soccer field, increasing our water supply, and installing solar panels to classrooms and the library as needed to ensure that the entire campus is ready for students.
TCF is dedicated to empowering students to safely attend, excel at, and graduate from secondary school. By creating an environment that is safe and conducive to learning, we can ensure students will thrive!
