A Bright and Healthy Future

Last Fall, a mother from the Oldeani community named Helen* visited TCF’s Rural Community Health Clinic in search of a solution for her newborn son Prosper who was born with clubfoot.

Helen learned that Prosper would need corrective surgery in Arusha at TCF’s partner organization The Plaster House. In rural Oldeani, access to specialized care and surgery is often rare and prohibitively expensive for families. Helen was filled with uncertainty as she worried about the costs and what would happen if Prosper didn’t receive the surgery.

Recognizing the daunting nature of the journey ahead, TCF’s Clinical Officer Africanus John was quick to reassure Helen that all associated costs would be covered by TCF and Plaster House and that he would be there every step of the way.

Earlier last year, Africanus had referred another child, Doreen, to Plaster House for the same procedure. He knew Doreen’s mother, Grace, would understand how Helen was feeling far more than he ever could so he connected them. Together, TCF’s Health Team and Grace gave Helen the assurance and courage needed to feel confident in scheduling the surgery

We are thrilled to share that Prosper has recovered from a successful surgery and now has regular follow-up visits between TCF’s Health Clinic and Plaster House alongside his new friend Doreen.

Our Health Team remains hard at work providing quality and compassionate medical care to over 8,000 patients a year. For anyone requiring care that exceeds the capabilities of our clinic, we not only cover the cost of care at a third-party, but arrange transport to the facility, coordinate accommodation, and act as medical case managers advocating for the unique needs of each patient.

We hope you join us to ensure happy and healthy futures for children like Prosper and Doreen.
