The Value of an Internship - a home where children are valued
On an average day at the Rift Valley Children’s Village (RVCV), Faraja Dawite can be found with her laptop and camera in hand ready for the day’s marketing assignment, while Neema Safari shadows Africanus John as he treats around 20 patients daily at the Rural Community Health Clinic, and Gericki Wayda researches and reads, working through a sociology project.
TCF is giving children a second chance at childhood by offering them more than just a roof over their heads and a bed to sleep in. We provide a loving forever family that offers each child unwavering support through every step of development, especially as they finish secondary school and progress through their college years. In preparation for college, Faraja, Neema, and Gericki are given the rare and special opportunity to participate in internships that have been tailored to their future coursework so they can feel empowered to succeed at college.
“It’s much different here at RVCV than in other communities; no other students my age get the chance to be given an internship designed for their college studies. Because everyone here takes the time to know what I’m interested in and support my decisions, I feel valued and cared for every day,” explains Faraja.
In the fall, Faraja will begin her studies in marketing already equipped with computer, drawing, design, photography, and film skills. Gaining knowledge of how to give first aid assistance and being exposed to a variety of patients’ needs has made Neema confident to start her courses in medicine With a deeper understanding of how to research, analyze, and structure written and verbal cases and arguments, Gericki feels more prepared and is looking forward to studying the social sciences.
Raising the children at RVCV to always feel valued and supported ensures that they will become thoughtful, ambitious, and passionate adults who follow their dreams. By going beyond just caring for our children, TCF is ensuring every child feels empowered to become the best version of themselves as they grow to become Tanzania’s next generation of leaders.
