Catherine's Inspiring Journey At OSS

At 14 years old, Catherine William is a remarkably determined student with an inspiring passion for learning! She is currently in Form 2 at Oldeani Secondary School (OSS) where she is residing on campus in TCF’s newly built dormitories.

Last year, Catherine was a day scholar who spent over 3 hours walking to and from school every day. This daily commute was not only physically exhausting but also posed several challenges, including the threat of wildlife, unpredictable weather, and safety risks while walking alone. Given these obstacles, Catherine often missed classes causing her to fall behind in her studies despite her determination to pursue an education.

This year, TCF opened our second dorm quad which has provided us with enough space to accommodate all Form 3 and 4 female students. With some extra spaces left, we were thrilled to extend the opportunity to live on campus to a few students in Form 1 and 2 such as Catherine.

Now settled into the routine of boarding, Catherine has become a leader amongst her peers. She serves as the Assistant Discipline Committee Chair, where she is able to identify areas where students need additional support to promote good behavior. Every week she attends meetings with the dorm manager, head matrons, and head patrons so that she and other committee chairs can voice the concerns of students.

When speaking with Catherine, she shared she is most grateful for the opportunity to finally focus on her studies and for the supportive community of peers. At OSS, Catherine has access to far more than just safe housing. She is provided consistent access to medical care, nutritional meals, mentorship, focused learning opportunities, life-skills training, and extracurricular activities.

With almost 300 students living on campus at OSS, TCF is committed to expanding our boarding program to ensure more students in Oldeani can safely access secondary school. In the coming years, we will continue to invest in our boarding program to provide students with everything they need to thrive.

We hope you join us in ensuring incredible young girls like Catherine have access to a quality education and an equal chance at a bright future!
