A Commitment to Early Childhood Education

Born and raised in TEC, a neighboring village, Anna Boay was eager to find a job as a teacher after getting her Diploma from Mhonda Teachers College. Having heard about the potential of an opening at the Rift Valley Children’s Village (RVCV), she came home to submit an application and in 2020 became an integral part of our Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Program.

Early Childhood programs are rare to find in Tanzania, so Anna was thrilled with the opportunity to provide this essential support to young children so they can be better prepared for primary school.

With her talent and hard work, Anna was promoted to Lead Teacher and now oversees all of our teaching assistants. Her passion is teaching younger learners, particularly from toddlers to Standard 2. “There’s much more of an impact when teaching younger students because you are starting from scratch. Teachers really know the talent and ability of their students and can help them reach their full potential” she shared.

Anna grew up with her parents and four siblings, not far from RVCV. She is a Gyetighi Primary School (GPS) graduate who went to Endabash Secondary School in Karatu before heading off to college. Through her job as Lead Teacher, she has been able to pay her father’s medical bills while also ensuring her brother, a Form 5 student, can continue his studies.

Anna explained, “I love working at RVCV because not only does it allow me to support my brother, but I enjoy working with people from different countries with different backgrounds in education.”

As an organization we believe in investing in Tanzanians and have seen the ripple effects this has had on our community. We are excited to see how Anna continues to grow in this role as we expand our ECCE Program! As we look to build another ECCE Center over the next five years, we are excited to provide this opportunity to more children and hope you join us in best serving the youngest members of our community!
